Since 2013, we’ve been fundraising with the Savitri Waney Charitable Trust to eliminate cataract blindness in some of the poorest communities in rural India.
We add a £1 voluntary donation to every bill and 100% goes directly towards funding a life-changing surgery for someone who is needlessly blind.
In India, 15 million people are blind by cataracts – yet they are readily treatable with surgery costing about £20. This includes transport to and from the hospital as well as accommodation, subsistence and pre and post-surgery care. The surgery itself takes about 20 minutes, after which a person’s sight is restored. For the thousands of people who Savitri work with, the impact of this surgery is far greater than the individual. It means mothers can return to work, children no longer need to miss out on school – whole communities are strengthened and livelihoods are restored.
To find out more watch our film: www.savitri.org.uk/bigchange This year Savitri will fund 25,000 free cataract surgeries to people living in remote villages in rural India. These are directly funded by your £1 donations. Thank You.
